ABOUT 10TH RETROFITTECH AND SUSTAINABLE BUILDINGS MENA SUMMIT
The UAE has become one of the world’s most attractive destinations, experiencing remarkable growth in both residential and commercial properties due to rising investment since 2020. Dubai, with its iconic skyline and innovative architecture, has led the way in integrating green infrastructure into urban expansion, a commitment showcased on the global stage during COP 28. To achieve the UAE’s Net Zero goals, over 30 federal, emirate, and organizational programs have been launched to improve sustainability, including building energy labels, expanded retrofitting efforts, green energy installations, and strict energy efficiency standards for new developments.
The Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 exemplifies these ambitions, aiming for 75% of the city's energy to come from clean sources by 2050, coupled with a massive AED 600 billion investment to meet increasing energy demands. This focus on clean energy and reduced carbon emissions highlights the UAE’s commitment to a sustainable economy. With real estate accounting for over 20% of the UAE’s greenhouse gas emissions, these initiatives underscore the importance of transitioning existing and new buildings to energy-efficient standards. As highlighted during COP 28, “climate-resilient buildings will be the new normal by 2030,” with a clear priority on retrofitting and sustainable development to secure a greener future.
Additionally, MOIAT unveiled the Industrial Decarbonization Roadmap in line with Operation 300bn, aiming to support the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 Strategy. This roadmap's primary goal is to cumulatively reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the industrial sector by 2.9 gigatonnes by 2050, aligning with the UAE’s Third Update of its Second Nationally Determined Contribution.
Rapid urbanisation and industrialisation in the country have led to several residential, commercial and industrial buildings sprouting up over the last few decades thus facing a rising need for energy efficient cooling systems to keep up with the current policy updates and Net Zero Targets.
At the 10th edition of the RetrofitTech and Sustainable Buildings MENA, we will witness an amalgamation of several business verticals coming together to discuss key challenges associated with retrofitting and decarbonising their operations. The event will witness remarkable sessions on topics like energy efficiency, sustainability, green retrofitting, technological innovation and many more across key sectors to keep up with targets set by various government entities.
